Translating diplomas and transcripts

Comparative evaluation, admission, professional order: each receiver has its own translation requirement.

Short answer

For the MIFI comparative evaluation, an original paper translation into French or English is required, seals included.

The seals and certification marks of all documents must also be translated; a partial translation delays the file.

Usual documents

  • Diploma and diploma supplement
  • Transcripts for every year
  • Statements from the institution
  • Course descriptions, when requested

By receiver

  • MIFI comparative evaluation: recognized translator, original paper translation.
  • Professional orders: translation certified true by an OTTIAQ member.
  • Universities and employers: certified translation, as a rule.

Professional orders

The Ordre des ingénieurs asks for a translation certified true by an OTTIAQ member; the Collège des médecins requires a certified translator’s seal and the translation of seal text. Check your order’s page.

Send the front and back of transcripts: grading scales are often on the back.

Common mistake

Translating only the diploma. The evaluation looks mainly at the transcripts.

Best next step

Choose “Transcripts” or “Diploma” in the form and name the receiver.
