What MIFI asks for your documents
For an application to Quebec’s immigration ministry, the translation must come from a recognized translator and carry their name and seal.
Short answer
MIFI accepts only a translation made by a recognized translator.
In Canada: a member of OTTIAQ, ATIO, STIBC or CTINB, or the translation department of an embassy or consulate. Abroad: a translator who is a member of a professional order, or the translation department of the issuing institution.
What to submit to MIFI
- The document in the original language
- The original of the complete translation
- The translator’s name and seal on the translation
What MIFI checks
- The translation is complete, seals and certification marks included.
- Certified copies are certified by the issuer or a recognized authority.
- Nothing is summarized or left out.
The notarial act exception
For Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, the Russian Federation, Georgia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine, MIFI accepts a translation without a translator’s seal if it comes with a notarial act.
When in doubt, choose the OTTIAQ translation: it is accepted in every MIFI case.
Common mistake
Sending an ordinary certified translation because IRCC accepted one. MIFI applies its own list of recognized translators.
Best next step
Choose the OTTIAQ translation in the order form and name the programme: we prepare the file in the right format.
