- a document issued by a public body, such as a birth certificate or a diploma;
- a court document, such as a decision of the Superior Court or a municipal court;
- an authentic act, such as a notarized document.
Quebec does not issue apostilles for documents issued by a federal authority, a territory or another province.

A document written in a language other than French or English must be the subject of an official certificate from a lawyer or notary. They declare that they understand its contents or that they obtained a translation from an OTTIAQ member.
What about the translation?
If the receiving country requires a translation, the apostille request may cover the document only, or the document and its translation. It depends on what that country requires. Check before you order.
Note: commissioners for oaths cannot make copies or administer oaths for sworn statements related to documents requiring an apostille.
