Quebec professional orders: translating foreign documents
Engineers, nurses, physicians: what the OIQ, the OIIQ and the Collège des médecins ask for the translation of documents that are neither in French nor in English.
To practise a regulated profession in Quebec, you apply to the professional order. Each order sets its own translation rules. Here are three examples.
Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
- Documents that are neither in French nor in English must be translated, with the translation certified true to the original by an OTTIAQ member.
- Outside Quebec, a translation recognized by the competent authority of your province or country is accepted.
- Course descriptions do not require a certified translator, but a translation is still required; a translator who is not certified attests it by solemn affirmation.
Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ)
Some documents in another language must be translated by a translator certified in Quebec or recognized by the authorities of the country where the translation was done. The OIIQ specifies which documents.
Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ)
- Documents sent directly to the Collège must bear the seal of a certified translator.
- Seal text in a foreign language must also be translated.
- Each translation is attached to the document it translates.
Order the translation
Name the professional order in the order form and choose the OTTIAQ translation.
